What's Covered

We learn how to colour correct with Final Cut Pro and with Color.

Why would I want this training?

Camera operators never record perfect footage 100% of the time, and film footage can be altered indirectly when it's developed, and film/video footage can sometimes be changed when it's captured. This course teaches you how to restore the original look of the image, using the tools in Color and how to read scopes so you can quantifiably determine if the video is within legal broadcast limits.

My footage is fine. I want to use Color creatively.

Great. We cover that, too. You can colour-correct a scene to indicate time of day, or indicate location and to create aesthetic stylized looks.

Do I need to be finish FCP101 first?

No, you don't need to take Final Cut Pro 101, but do you need to be comfortable in the Final Cut Pro timeline, making basic edits. You also need to know the Final Cut Pro terminology like bin and sequence.

Is there an exam?

There is an exam, the successful completion of grants you Color Correction in Final Cut Studio Level One certification, which is the only Apple Color user certification available and counts towards Final Cut Pro Master Certification. The exam is optional and costs $100 with the course, or $150 without the course or for re-writes. You can buy the exam with the course and then you have one year to come in and write it at Splice.

What is Final Cut Studio Master Certification?

That's a designation you'll achieve after you successfully pass four of the exams. View Apple's Website for

What book do I need?

The course book is Apple Pro Training Series: Color Correction in Final Cut Studio by Michael Wohl and David Gross. You can order it from Amazon or Chapters, or you can buy it from Splice. You'll pay less buying it online, as real bookstores can offer you increased savings that Splice, which isn't a bookstore, can't.
