An organization’s server is one of its most valuable information technology assets – it retains and provides access to critical files and services without which the organization would have trouble operating.
Certain information pertaining to the organization’s business is sensitive material, and access to this material should be restricted to those with appropriate authorization.
External access to the Server is a very important component of overall security – the greater the number of people who know about the Server’s existence, the greater the chances of someone attempting to break in / hack / steal data. The ideal situation for system security is to have the Server only expose itself to external clients when absolutely necessary.
