What's Covered

We learn to create customized effects, and use the built-in paint and compositing effects.

What is the Paint effect?

Paint allows you to choose brushes and a paint colour, and "paint" on your video frames, much like you might paint in Photoshop. Unlike Photoshop, in Media Composer, you paint on multiple frames of video (or seconds, or minutes of it.) You can animate the paint strokes, using them for visual effects, or for retouching. You can choose between regular paint that applies a colour, or you can clone parts of your image. You can also use the paint tools to dust bust - to remove dust and scratches from your video.

Is this course taught on Windows or Mac?

Media Composer works and looks exactly the same on Windows and Mac OS, with the exception that two keyboard keys (control & command) are reversed. Because of that, we normally teach it on Mac. If you'd prefer to take the course with Avid on Windows, we'd be more than happy to prepare a workstation with Avid Media Composer running on Windows.

Is there an exam?

There is an optional end-user exam which, upon successful completion, will earn you the Avid Certified Professional Certification.

Will I be ready to write the Professional Exam?

Not yet. This is the first of two components to prepare to write the Certified Expert Exam. The other is MC201: Professional Picture and Sound Editing. We teach a combined delivery of these courses in our 5-day Media Composer Professional Certification Bootcamp.

What book do I need?

You need to have the official textbook, Media Composer 6: Professional Effects and Compositing. The textbook is not included in the course price.
