Apple Updates Final Cut Studio and Logic Studio

Last week Apple surprised a lot of people when they released an update to both Final Cut studio and Logic Studio, their professional video and audio suites. With the focus of both upgrades being organization, workflow and faster editing one could think that they offer little in the way of enhancements. However, with over 300 new features between the two suites, the update is far from minor and I’m sure despite the new features there will be some users who may feel less than excited to relearn a program that was once more familiar.

The good news for all students who’ve taken a Final Cut Studio or Logic Studio course at Splice over the last year is that they will be able to sit in on the updated courses for free. Starting in October Splice will be offering it’s updated certification for both Final Cut studio and Logic studio, so wether you’re looking to upgrade your current expertise or get started for the first time with either application this Fall be a great time for anyone looking to improve their skills on Final Cut and Logic.

Some of the highlights for Final Cut 7 are an expanded ProRes codec which allows editing HD video at SD file sizes, iChat theatre which allows editors to share drafts online with anyone around the world, improved marker support for easier and more streamlined organization and new speed change tools allowing the ability to drastically change clip speeds.

Similarly, Logic 9 now features flex time – a collection of tools designed to manipulate timing and tempo, selective track import to share tracks and information between projects, Drum replacer for augmenting or replacing sounds and a Bounce-in-place function which allows the quick rendering of effects for a single region or entire track.
